Fantastic Accents for Your Scrapbook Designs
by Kelli Morris ~ January 21st, 2008. Filed under: Scrapbook News.Scrapbooking is a great form of self-expression with your photographs. You can accent your treasured photos with newspaper clippings, articles, stickers, journaling, clipart, rubber stamping, die cut designs, and any number of other accessories to make your album more colorful and attractive. The key is finding the right materials to reflect your taste and the correct technique to put them together.
Finding accents on the internet is a few simple mouse clicks away. There are millions of free and downloadable themed images. The most popular themes include babies, holidays, and cartoon characters. Make sure you print on acid free paper using a laser printer if at all possible. Ink jet printers use water based ink which will deteriorate over time.
Die cuts are popular. They are colorful paper images that can be mounted on adhesive dots for a 3-D effect. They are sold according to theme and are available in a multitude of different designs. The only difference between a die-cut and a sticker is stickers are self-adhesive.
Acid free stickers are a tremendously popular accent for scrapbooks because of their wide availability, ease of use, and low cost. Hobby and craft stores frequently run specials on stickers knowing scrapbooks will flock through their doors.
If stickers appeal to you but you want something less consumable, you may like to try accenting your albums with rubber stamps. There are many companies who cater to scrapbookers with the images they find appealing. These companies offer the finest quality pigment inks which will be long lasting and safe for your albums. Rubber stamping is a booming hobby in itself and can be a beautiful compliment to your love of scrapbooking.
Using a technique called Mosaic, you can use simple things like newspaper clippings, magazine photos, and other types of media to enhance your designs. Make sure you spray anything of this nature with archival spray to make it safe for your album.
